The Second Royal Factory (Mae Chan)

Located in Baan Pahsang, Maechan, Chiang Ra

The Second Royal Factory in Maechan, Chiang Rai was established in 1973 with Professor Amorn Bhumirat from the Institute of Food Research and Product Development, Kasetsart University as the director of both the first and the second Royal Factories. The purpose of this establishment is to purchase produce from farmers to promote winter crops plantation in the area.

On January 12, 1973 the Second Royal Factory in Maechan, Chiang Rai experiments producing products from baby corn and soy bean. His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej gave the Second Royal Factory in Maechan, Chiang Rai 100,000 baht from his own capital as the factory’s working capital on February 15, 1976. Among other contributors—providing cash, land, machinery, equipment and buildings—were local inhabitants, foreign corporations and government agencies, whose contributions are rendered under the royal charity.

In the beginning of the operation, there has been formation of agricultural cooperatives that sell fertilizers, chemicals, and agricultural equipment to farmers at lower costs. Furthermore, Children’s Nutrition Center was established for children to grow up with right nutrition for both physical and mental health. A health center was also established for local people to be able to receive medical treatment and consultation. The Children’s Nutrition Center had been renovated and the health center was upgraded into a local hospital.

The Second Royal Factory in Maechan, Chiang Rai purchases products from Maechan, Chiang Saeng, and Mueng districts in Chiang Rai. The factory is renowned for processed soy products for being the first to own full fat soy flour machine in Thailand.

The Second Royal Factory in Maechan, Chiang Rai remians to be the main force of production for Doi Kham products with production line such as, ready to drink fruit juice, frozen fruits, and soy flour.
